Okay but what would Jimmy think of Hailey, given that they're both ghosts who've learned how to make themselves corporeal in order to interact with the living world?

I think he'd be immediately curious about her, since he'd never met someone who'd done the same sort of thing as him. He'd probably ask what her methods were, out of curiosity, and she'd probably be curious about how long he's been a ghost and what life was like in his time. It would be a lot of talking points about how the hell they each got into this situation, especially since they ended up here in completely different ways.

He'd definitely be friendly towards her, since there are very few people he's not friendly towards and he'd definitely want to connect with someone with such a similar situation to his own. I think the only thing he wouldn't quite get at first is the trans situation, he'd be accepting (as a queer person himself) but would need a little coaching at first because that wasn't really discussed or accepted at all in his time.

Tagged by @sudsandspectre. Thank you! I finally remembered to fill one of these out haha.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 50 on my main and three on a side account.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 169,923 on my main and 13,908 on the side, for a total of 183,831, which I think is a neat number.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Star Wars, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, Pathologic, and Assassin’s Creed are the big ones. I have a few other fandoms, but usually only one or two per.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? They’re all Star Wars ones, funnily enough. And If (Well); There Are Frontiers, They Are Endless; It’s Coming Home; Made Whole Through Broken Jaws; and Time is a Thief (Gladness and Grief).

5. Do you respond to comments? Sometimes. I have been trying, but when I get busy in my offline life, I tend to forget to come back to them.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don’t really write angst, so they all have pretty hopeful endings at worst. I guess it’s probably Pandora’s Box (Mass Effect), though.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Haha well… since most of them are happy, I guess maybe Not With Haste (Deus Ex) since it’s pure fluff. Angel’s Chorus (Mass Effect) and And If (Well) are both fix-its, but the ramifications aren’t really explored beyond the end of the fics, so…

8. Do you get hate on fics? I don’t recall any. If I have, I’ve put it out of my mind immediately.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes. When I do, it’s very explicit and a one-shot. I write mostly m/m these days, but I have written m/f in the past. I will continue to attempt to write f/f smut that I am not embarrassed to post (so far, no luck).

10. Do you write crossovers? Only a few. Outside of Pinky Swear (Iunyasha/HP), I only have Mass Effect crossovers published, but I have a few others hiding in the depths of my WIP folders. I have a hard time with them usually, as I want the crossover to be plausible (which is easy with an entire galaxy+ to play with from ME).

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Maybe? Someone asked to translate one of my Patho fics into Russian. I asked for a link when they had finished and never received one so I don’t know if they ever did it.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes. Before I was comfortable writing my own smut, I had a friend help with a handjob scene. It's very funny to look back on. Also, all of my side account fics are technically collabs, where I fleshed out someone else’s outline, even though they’re posted under only one name.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? I simply cannot pick just one. I usually only have one otp per fandom though; I am nearly incapable of multi-shipping. Some of my favourites (in no particular order) are Fem!Shep/Zaeed, SoapGhost, Jensard, Burakovsky, Fem!Revan/Canderous, JangObi and Kagome/Sesshoumaru.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? As much as I want to say I will finish everything I’ve started, probably Pinky Swear. It’s half an HP fic, and I just can’t bring myself to write on it, really.

16. What are your writing strengths? Timelines, I think. Even for oneshots I will usually have a whole sidebar of notes on travel speeds or when something happened in relation to other things. It helps me keep things organised enough to slide little asides into gaps in the canon (or, as in There Are Frontiers, They Are Endless, co-opt canon for my own means).

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Keeping going on the longer ones. I want to write long fic, but I have a hard time keeping the momentum. Even with outlines, I need to be in the right mood and it’s hard to get there once the initial drive has faded. Also, endings.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I admit to doing it more than is probably necessary (pretty much exclusively for mando’a in my Star Wars fics) but my view is that if you are not going to have translations, the phrase must be inconsequential (one-off endearments or swears that are understandable through context clues, and are only added spice to the fic).

If you have translations, they should be screen-reader friendly. I use a CSS script that translates on hover (long-press on mobile) only when the creator’s style is shown. If the creator’s style is turned off, the translation is shown in square brackets behind the phrase. I find it easier than footnotes, but so long as the translation is easily accessible, I think that’s what matters.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Inuyasha? I think? Or a comic series I can’t even fully remember the name of (Skate Girl? Maybe?). Either way, any digital copies are lost on a very old FFN account, and the physical ones are even further gone.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? This is a hard question! Maybe Quinine (Deus Ex). It’s very dreamy, imo. Same with The Bends (Deus Ex). I think There Are Frontiers, They Are Endless will be very satisfying for everyone in the end, though.

@afaramir tagged me to share a some of a wip thank u abby!! i've really gotten Star Wars Brained™️again so here's a snippet from the perpetually-unfinished 'what if this side character was force sensitive but it didn't actually change anything?' AU :p

   Kleya is walking out of the Imperial Navy Recruitment Centre, calm and efficient and invisible, as hurrying on Coruscant gets you nowhere but dead. She’s left the package on the desk without any trouble, the receptionist bored and the security officers lazy, when suddenly the thing in her head yawns and snaps at her, animal teeth grazing her heels.    Kleya starts to run.    She skids into the turbolift right before the door closes and smiles blandly at the man inside. “Late for my next delivery,” she laughs, self-deprecating, and lets him lecture her on the importance of punctuality until there’s a violent shrieking of metal and the turbolift lurches to a halt, caught between two floors. They both stumble, barely keeping their footing.    The emergency lights come on.    The officer turns to look at her, something suspicious blooming on his face, and she puts two blaster bolts into his chest before he can say a word.

this fic is very... i don't like writing much about andor because the show is so, so good so it kinda doesn't feel like there's anything for me to add? but i am FASCINATED by the spymaster-who-needs-handling/agent-who-occasionally-handles-him dynamic that luthen and kleya have. he has such 'secret jedi' vibes that i'm so glad we didn't get confirmed but i think it would actually be more fun if SHE was connected to the web of energy that binds all living things, and it didn't matter in the grander scheme at all.

also bonus kotor 2 fic snippet because i just. cannot stop rotating the game in my mind. what if you had a crush/wartime hookup and she either fell to the dark side while you were together or was always there from the start. you know how it goes.

   Her memories of Revan have... blurred, somewhat. The aftermath of Malachor V and her violent severing from the Force were greatly disorienting, scrambling things around, and ten years of piecing herself back together wasn’t nearly enough time to make peace with what passed between them.    When she tries, Leida can almost summon her up; she had been a sun in the Force, burning and vast and greater than anyone had the right to be, like a deity, a war-goddess. Alek was the recruiter, coming to the Temple and promising justice, but in truth they all fought under Revan’s banner, in Revan’s name.     It was all for Lady Revan, sad-eyed with something terse in her expression, who had met Leida after a skirmish wiped out the rest of her unit and said, “Yes, you’ll do.”

Jove’s Oath of Ancients is a sacred commitment to affirm life, foster joy, be excellent to each other, and PARTY ON, DUDES!! A literally sworn optimist, they can come across as risk-happy, blasé, even callous in their dismissal of danger and negativity, but it’s also easy to get swept up in their huge dragonborn muscles and +9 rizz modifier and believe them when they say it’ll all be okay.

They used to be a gifted artisan, but don’t talk about their career or how it ended. Now they’re a paladin errant, wielding their giant glaive and ferocious positivity against the agents of despair. After losing an eye, breaking their wrist and their oath, Jove’s optimism has grown back harder and more gnarled than before, and they tend to defer to their companions for major decisions, not trusting their own judgment anymore.

Ritika Estis was the master metallurgist who taught Jove to work with molten materials, despite their misgivings about being a blue dragonborn without fire breath or resistance. She passed away some years ago in Baldur’s Gate, but Jove’s dream guardian takes her form—whether as a cheap ploy to gain Jove’s trust, or as a genuine echo of their old mentor, they can’t be sure.

This gith knows nothing about her life before the nautiloid, but since Lae’zel addressed her (and mocked her) like an elder relative she answers to “Auntie.” Lonely, curious, reactive. Center of a Venn diagram between “cigarette mom” and “Frankenstein’s monster.” Looks and fights like a gith, but lacks any cultural context or instincts that would make her feel like one.

Auntie’s 2 hirelings. Deadeye was a young hunter, blinded in an accident and then given her sight back by a True Soul… just so she could watch her entire village burn, then have—her killers thought—her eyes put out and closed forever. Singer was a halfling traveling apothecary, killed for refusing to tend to Absolutists and sing for them after the massacre.

Though both women’s presences are cold and diminished and they can only speak with Withers’s vocabulary, traces of their personality remain. Deadeye was playful once, and still has the light step, deft hand, and trace of a wicked smile to prove it. Astarion swears he’s heard her coo and giggle faintly while playing with Scratch at night, long after the party’s living members are asleep. Singer was stern, matronly, and humorless with others, her face only relaxing when she was absorbed in her herbcraft or music making. Auntie gifted her Lihala’s lute, though it hurts to see a bard outlined against the campfire again, quietly picking out the notes of “The Power,” just feet away from the shadow of Alfira’s bloodstain.

Auntie doesn’t know she is a Bhaalspawn, but she feels instinctively that it’s her duty to care for murdered bodies and souls. She knows the names these revanants bore in life (Maddala and Brenna), but doesn’t use them, out of respect for these women’s vengeful echoes being different from the women themselves, and she’s as protective of them as she is of her “real” companions.

Terpsichore 🐏 she/her 🐏 satyr 🐏 rogue

She sings! She dances! She rams you with her horns!

Like Shadowheart, Terpsichore is on a holy mission for her patron goddess, armed only with her wits, blades, and the memories that her enclave—her Selûnite enclave—considered necessary for her to complete the task she’s been set: a pilgrimage to Moonrise Towers to assassinate an agent of Shar.

One second, she was crossing the Tower’s threshold (or windowsill, in the adept rogue’s case)—the next that she knew, she was being sealed in a pod aboard the nautiloid for processing. Failed. Abandoned. Godless. For now. If she doesn’t salvage this.

Terpsichore was told she’d know her target on sight, but she can’t be sure it isn’t Shadowheart—after all, while wrestling for the chance to kill each other they saw flashes of their own memories in each other’s minds, and Terpsichore feels… a lot… when she lays eyes on this particular enemy. ;-)

Jango Fett's no good very bad day begins. Coincidentally, it coincides with Din Djarin's SUPER no good very bad day. They most assuredly do not bond over this.)

I am, or was. (Dragon Age: Inquisition, a spirit takes an interest in Solas after he helps it in the Fallow Mire and begins following him around like a lost puppy. This Prodigal Son (Hades/Dragon Age: Inq, Zagreus goes through the wrong Chaos portal. Magister Alexius finds a powerful spirit in the Fade and, as is his way, decides fuck it, we ball. Also his way, it doesn't go very well for him.)

Oldest OC (length of time you've had them): uuuhhhh either Kenna or Rahna. I know KotOR is older than Dragon Age, but Kenna is like my seventh Revan(after I found out you could acTUALLY ROMANCE CARTH), so it’s possible I made her after I did Rahna(Tabris ftw). Of the ones I regularly talk about, it’s Trinne 

 Meanest OC: hmmmm I dunno if I have any who are straight up mean? I have a few who are blunt and/or brutally honest, so probably Mallory or Xaeryn?

Softest OC: Vica, Vikkari, or Ves say that five times fast Apparently I have a subconscious connection between V names and Soft™ characters

Most Aloof/Standoffish: Mallory. Girl’s got walls around her walls. Honorable mention to Tavi “literally ran away from my feelings” Illani tho

 Dumbest (affectionate): if we’re talking “lack of book learning” probably Emiri, since she spent 20 years as a slave and wasn’t allowed to learn anything? Or maybe Kasey, with the denial of her feelings for Mason and everything. Ofc Tavi also has extremely Questionable Judgement a lot of the time.....

Smartest OC: Adi or Xaeryn, definitely. The two of them have read and learned everything they could get their hands on

Horniest OC: Endrali uhhh there’s a couple in tight competition, too close to call a winner

OC You'd Bang: I mean. Pretty much any of the guys?😅 If you made me pick just one I’d say Vikkari beat Cele and Tragen by a hair. It’s the Desna vibes then again Tragen has that voice. hhmmm

Hope (From So Long as the Music Plays We Dance)

“It's a display of support," she finally said. "I'm hardly in a position to refuse.”

Loghain stopped.

“Shouldn't Fontaine be handling this?”

“Fontaine is not here.”

“Then wait until she comes back.”

“I can't do that. It could be months! Empress Celene would take offence.”

She couldn't help but notice how Loghain bristled slightly at the name. Old habits died hard.

“Then let her take offence. She benefits from this far more than we do. Show the Wardens are on her side and hope Gaspard gets the hint. Her inviting you to this... ball of hers is hardly disinterested. Celene is a politician, first and foremost. An Orlesian politician, to boot. She's not to be trusted.”

“No, she's not. That doesn't mean I'm walking into the lion's den.”

Smile (From To Hell and Back)

The woman starts scribbling.

“Lord Malak,” she says, “am I to understand that you are no longer affiliated with the Sith Empire? Are you then to be tried as a citizen of the Republic?”

Malak feels his knuckles crack. He doesn’t know. He doesn’t care. What he does know, right now, is that he wants her gone.

“Lord Malak?” she repeats, and if she says it once more, he’s going to explode. He has no answers for her. And from what he can tell, Revan doesn’t either – not that the woman pays her much heed. That doesn’t stop her from stepping forward and leaning towards the journalist, as if to whisper in her ear.

“It’s classified Jedi business, Miss. Now if you’ll excuse us…”

The woman frowns, but relents.

“Well, then,” she says, handing Revan a card, “should any developments arise… you may contact me at any time.”

Revan slips the card in her pocket and forces a smile.

“I’ll bear it in mind.”

The woman nods and walks away.

“Tell me you’re throwing that away.”

“Nope.”

“Fantastic.”

Choice (From A Woman of her Word, short WIP)

Some things - she realises with bitter amusement - do not change. She watches in silence as Korris closes the hatch behind him, still fuming from their talk, and she knows for a fact that he would have slammed it, had its design allowed it. Let him throw a fit if it pleases him, it changes nothing. The Geth, in many ways, are like spirits - scarce venturing beyond the Veil, as similar and as different from organic life as entities from another realm can be. Like spirits, they cannot be trusted. And like spirits, they can be subdued. That some are capable of emotions - of compassion, even - should not matter. Does not matter. Not when the stakes are this high. Because for all the other Admirals’ distrust, for all they vilify her when they think her out of earshot, she is a woman of her word. They will re-take Rannoch, when the time comes, and she will find a way through the Veil. Whether it is wiser to cross it or remain here... she does not know. Though she is loath to admit it, there are advantages to not being a hunted apostate. Not quite as many to being stuck in an enviro-suit. Still, at this point, the choice is hypothetical, and it is up to her to ensure it does not remain so.

Settle (From Long Live the King)

“See, that’s just the thing. They all want me to be Maric. I’m not Maric.”

“And judging by the stories I’ve heard, I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing.”

“Oh, so the pillow-talk also revolves around my father. Good to know.”

“What? No! Stop deflecting.”

“Why should I? It’s what I’m best at. Oh, got a new shield, by the way. Does just that. Deflecting. Or it… would if I used it more.”

She took a breath. Do not take the bait.

“That’s not true, and you know it. You’ve got this. Being King. Besides, who cares that you grew up in a stable? You’re rebuilding Ferelden now. That’s all that matters.”

“Perhaps.”

Another wave hit the hull, and Alistair brought a hand to his mouth. It took him a moment to straighten up and look at her again.

“So… not that I have a bet to settle or anything but… how long?”

Erin smirked.

“That’s rather vague, your Majesty.”

“Oh, you know what I’m talking about. How long have you had it for…” he winced and gestured towards the stairs leading up to the quarterdeck, where Loghain was still sitting hunched over his map. She laughed.

“Long enough.”

“Since the Blight?”

Erin didn’t answer. Alistair sighed.

“You’re mad.”

“You say that as if you’d just found out.”
